On Olympic spirit - as it should be

"I wanted no part of politics. And I wasn't in Berlin to compete against any one athlete. The purpose of the Olympics, anyway, was to do your best. As I'd learned long ago from Charles Riley, the only victory that counts is the one over yourself."Jesse Owens
Thank you, Mr. Owens, for articulating it so perfectly. If only the IOC had the courage to follow your example. Alas, they don't.

I agree w/the quote, but how many people actually follow thru w/it? Since I was old enough to watch the Olympics on tv, I remember all the talk and concern on competition between countries and between individuals... is it the media's fault? or is it ours? the human nature of it.. We all have that cometitiveness in us, animals do as well.. The trick is to not let it get out of hand.
